Conference Craze and Travel Lessons Learned

ACRONYMS OF ADVENTURE

Today`s business conferences are taking on new roles in trying to evolve and adapt to its members. It used to be that business conferences were the sole domain of those who attended. But all industries have their fan base, and this is something that business conferences have had to consider. In the technology market there are numerous events that have business as their structure but fun as their fuel.

L.A.
I for one, fell in love with L.A. because of a conference.

Getting away… A time of respite, a time to rejuvenate. Sitting for hours, leisurely reading Robertson Davies helps to make the hours of train, planes and automobile travel pass in between. Scenery and melodious tones, words of wisdom and a destination; these are the backpacking vacationer’s constant companions.

Los Angeles, a desert oasis absencent of humidity with a heat that keeps me vital…

C.E.S., E3, T.G.S., Comic-Con, Car Shows, Home Shows, Boat Shows; forgive the pun, but you can’t be a no show. Modern conferences can have in the hundreds of thousands of attendees on a daily basis.

Take this analogy,  for instance. Commonly, people will be at their best when they have guests. A city is no exception to this. Because many businesses are seasonal, tourists and the tourism industry are in fact their livelihood. As that is, they will operate at peak performance during this time. This motivation to perform can therein make for a better vacation spot.

E3 AND LOVING LOS ANGELES

The show has changed, but E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is an event that means speaking my own language for five days without rebuke. In 2005, E3 had an upward of 70, 000 attendees. In that sea of people I enjoyed all that gaming has to offer. Being on your feet for 12-16 hours at a time can be just where those hiking boots come in handy. Last post, I talked about researching some essential gear. The lessons I learned at E3 carry forward to events that I attend currently.

Having waterproof, light-weight hiking boots, means those endless hours in attendance won’t be spent in pain. Having the essential equipment can make just the difference, and avoid any severe joint injuries. Your vacation of backpacking and youth hostile stays will be your means to more time on the road.

Explorers seldom have the luxury to neglect the essentials. Taking on the mantle of the vacationing backpacker has many inferences. During your tour of technology and media road shows, you’ll want to have the comforts of home. Your shoulder bag will be resilient enough that it will endure spills, and keep your technology safe. If “the medium is the message” then so too is the destination. As appropriate as it is to ensure that jungle travel means being inoculated, then festival travels will keep you in the tools of the trade.

Los Angeles and its Electronic Entertainment Expo live in a city that thrives on competition. Walking a showroom floor will have you capturing images, making notes on a laptop, and waiting in lines playing games with fellow attendees. Your feet all cozy beneath you, gear tucked away, you’ll enjoy your time better wherever you are if you try and anticipate how your going to spend the time waiting for something to happen.
