Meat Eating Around the World

Throw a good steak on the grill, or order a plate of ribs with steak on the side. Get it as done or as rare as you like it. Maybe you would like to try a meat lovers Pizza or if you can manage it, the infamous Heart Attack Burger that is growing in fame in Tempe Arizona. Many countries in the world are known for their consumption of meat. You can go to any football game and find a grill going. Any state fair or barbecue cook off and you’ll find any recipe of roasted, chopped, fried or broiled. The United States ranks fifth in the world of meat eaters.

Among the receivers of the meat eaters award is the lovely country of South Africa. It certainly has a wide variety of meats to dish up. South Africa being famed for its’ biltong and boerewors it could be running neck and neck with the US, South Africa is ranked number four. But wait, we have another contender, the country of Brazil. This growing nation is not exactly short stopping when it comes to meat consumption. With their all you can eat style of serving meat. The American buffet almost looks vegetarian. Brazil ranks number three on the list.

Many people in the world are vegetarians. Some cultures practice vegetarianism for many different reasons. Britain is the most vegetarian friendly country in the world. But on the other hand there are the meat eaters of the world. This group would encompass the United States, which is famous for its backyard barbecues and plentiful steakhouses. Brazil, South Africa, Germany and Argentina are all meat lovers.

Argentina is a big producer of beef and the country serves up meat on a large scale. The meat prices are beyond reasonable and the spicy sausage, chorizo is served in abundance to satisfy your hunger for the meat. When it comes to the culinary arts Argentina stays close to its’ European roots and is considered King of the meat loving countries.

Every country has its’ vegetarians, this is a culture that has been practiced through the ages. In China the Buddhist Monks are devout vegetarians. A lot of distributors label food in certain places to make it easier for vegetarians to purchase their products. Clearly being a vegetarian is easier in some places than others.

With people becoming more health conscious vegetarianism is growing in popularity but it takes work to be a vegetarian in Brazil or Argentina. Neither area has a strong vegetarian group in relationship to the countries as a whole. The people of this area are not hostile to vegetarians; the idea simply has not quite caught on.

If you love to eat, and to travel as well, the cuisine alone may inspire you to visit one of these many destinations. There are so many different cultures in the world, each country has its’ special style, so whether you are a meat eater or a vegetarian trying the various cuisines around the globe and experiencing the hospitality of the people allows for a fascinating experience.
