With the popularity of air flight most trans-ocean travel is done by plane. Ships are more often points of destination for cruises in between islands or around ports of interest in tourist locations. Traveling to Asia by boat is less common in today’s high-speed world but offers a lot in terms of relaxation for the tourist with the time to take in getting where they’re going.

There’s no mistaking the fact that an ocean voyage will take much longer than a trip through the air. Safety is rarely a concern in the modern era of ocean travel and ocean liners are massive ‘cities on the water’ that can make getting there as much fun as arriving at your chosen port. There are things to remember when embarking on a long voyage by ocean liner to Asia that will make your trip more enjoyable.
Call Ahead
Call the liner in question before hand to find out what regulations they have regarding luggage, special supplies you may need for medical purposes, and things like child care. Knowing ahead of time can help you pack accordingly and make appropriate arrangements in advance. Find out what special features they have for entertainment so that you can have the appropriate clothing and ask about local temperatures as well so you have everything you need on hand. Of course if you do find you’ve left some important article of clothing at home there are always shops on board but you will pay the price for leaving things you need at home.
Have Your Papers Prepared
Be sure to have all passports and other medical or necessary paperwork prepared well in advance of leaving. If you have any valuables you need to place in storage you can contact Ottawa self storage and they’ll take care of things for you while you’re away. You can ask the ocean line what you will need in order to disembark at your destination. Have all prescriptions for medications filled in advance and make sure to have any accompanying paperwork from your doctor on hand because many countries will require proof before carrying prescription medications off the ship.
Be sure to check all documents when you receive them for the proper information. Make sure names are spelled correctly, addresses are correct, etc. This will save you many headaches and possibly keep you from missing your trip entirely if not caught in time.
Be On Time
Missing a boat is a lot different than missing a flight. It is less likely another will be leaving soon and while you can hop a flight in hopes of connecting with your boat at a connecting port it will dampen your enjoyment of the experience.
Be Prepared for Security
Know that even on a ship there will be pre-boarding security checks for the safety of all involved. Have all of your identification on hand and be prepared to have your bags examined. Calling ahead to be aware of items that are not allowed can help you pack accordingly.
Once you have done all your homework, checked online for your free credit reports, making sure your credit cards are in order, gone through security, and are onboard you can sit back and enjoy your time at sea. The relaxing swell of the water and gentle rocking of the boat will take a little getting used to but once you do it will provide a wonderful stress free way to travel to the Orient.
