The idea of working your way around the world may not be as glamorous as it sounds at the start, but it is a great way to be able to afford seeing the world. Unless you are a multi-millionaire chances are a trip around the world is out of your reach. You can still make it happen, however, it may take a little elbow grease and ingenuity. Don’t expect accommodations like Mont Tremblant hotels, but you can still live in relative comfort in many places around the globe.

There are several ways you can exchange work for means to travel. You can work in exchange for lodging and/or food. This can cut a lot of the biggest expenses for you. There are more opportunities for this type of work/travel in Europe and hostels and family hosted tourist housing are more common there. You can offer cleaning services in exchange for room and board. This is also an excellent way to pick up the language and learn Italian or French, or Spanish, depending on which country you’re in. Most of that type of arrangement is done on the cuff without the need for work visas; however, if you are caught you may be fined, or even deported. If you choose to apply for a work visa it is a rather lengthy procedure and best if you plan on staying in each destination several months. In those cases you can actually find legal work during the day and explore the region after hours.
If you are traveling to under-developed countries you can usually find work that will allow you to live nicely although it is a good idea to have travel money set aside. The wages paid for jobs in struggling nations may allow you to fare well daily but won’t purchase a plane ticket and unless you don’t mind being stuck somewhere actual travel costs are important items to have planned well in advance.

Another way to work your way around the world is to do it in increments. When you do this you travel to the country you wish to visit and work for several months paying your way while there, then return home. Once home you work for several months to acquire enough capital to travel to your next destination and work to pay for your time in the country before returning home once more. Doing this allows you time to gather information for each trip in between times as well as relaxing in your home environment before each new experience.
Most of the jobs you will find in foreign countries may take a little getting used to. It helps to not be choosy, that way you can have a better chance of not finding yourself unemployed and without lodging or food. The jobs are usually bottom of the rung, but they provide a means to an end and allow you the time spent in areas of the world you might not otherwise be able to afford.
On additional way to work your way around the world is to write about your experiences. Many travel guides, magazines, or newspapers pay for articles that are well-written and have advice for other travelers. You can write about your experiences in each location and get paid for having been there.
In more advanced areas of the world if you have the skills you can often find work that will pay for your entire trip including travel. That makes a world excursion fun and thrifty. Another great way to put some dollar bills in your pockets is to sell any jewelry you no longer wear. Visit Gold4Cash and they will help finance your trip with cash for your gold. Spend weeks, and months in each of your chosen locales while saving up for the next leg of your journey. When you finally arrive home you will have stories to tell, an in-depth knowledge of the cultures and languages of the countries you inhabited and a lifetime of memories.
